Fireside Chat With Journalist Dorothy Butler Gilliam

What

Dorothy Butler Gilliam began her journalism career at the Memphis Tri-State Defender, a black-owned newspaper, and went on to become the first black female reporter at The Washington Post in 1961. She is a past president of the National Association of Black Journalists and founding director of the Young Journalists Development Project.

Gilliam’s 50-year-career as a journalist put her in the forefront of the fight for social justice. Her new book Trailblazer: A Pioneering Journalist's Fight to Make the Media Look More Like America offers a comprehensive view of racial relations and the media in the U.S.

Gilliam will be led in conversation by Alexis Scott, a long-time Atlanta journalist and former publisher of Atlanta Daily World.

Copies of her book will be sold on-site by A Cappella Books.

The ticket price does not include parking. Parking is available in the 191 Building parking deck with entrances on Ellis Street and Peachtree Center Avenue. Discounted parking vouchers for this deck will be available for $15 at the event. Guests must bring the ticket they receive upon entering the deck to receive the discount. The Peachtree Center MARTA station is also conveniently located nearby.
